I've just started reading the manga, so I actually listened to this before I even had the books. I see that it follows the book very closely. Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou is like no other anime or manga I've seen, yet I wouldn't even have noticed it if I didn't think about it. Even though the premise is quite unusual, there's so little unusualness to the story that I don't think about the premise. It reminds me of why I watch so little American TV while I watch a lot of anime. There's simply nothing like this in American culture, let alone in TV.
