Animephile Rating: D (6.0)
- Video Scan Type : interlaced-TV (-2.5) -
dTV can definitely detect correct 3:2 pulldown. Unfortunately, it changes
every time scene changes, so it's always busy keeping up. Computer animation
scenes actually look really good with 3:2 pulldown detected. Too bad this
disc isn't progressive. It would have been awesome. Well, I guess it needed
one more thing. (See below)
- Aspect Handling : letterbox-16:9 (-1.0) -
Ah well. It's a first ever 16:9 TV anime as far as I know.
- Compression : -0.0
- Video Separation : -0.0
- Scene Transition : -0.0
- Calibration : -0.5 -
I don't know. It feels little on the dark side.
Comments:
You know what they say, "third time is the charm." There was the Blue Sub
thingy I never could like. Then there is Gatekeepers, which is just a
confused mix of other great anime as far as I'm concerned. Now, here comes
Vandread. It's not anything spectacular (other than the visuals, that is),
but it is charming nonetheless. I mean, it brings a new meaning to
male/female relationships. Di-ta is certainly likeable despite the repeated
"Uchuujin-san" thingy. I guess I'd rather have her say, "Baka!" instead
because he sure is. I'll be collecting this one. It's money better spent
than buying Gatekeepers anyway.
Image1 shows a nice all-computer-graphics shot. Battle scenes are quite
spectacular. Somehow, they avoid being too cheesy, which is very surprising
to me. It's a good surprise, of course.
Image2 shows a mix or hand-drawn mecha on a CG ship. Not bad. Not bad at
all! If you don't know, yeah, they're about to... do it. ^_^
Note that I cropped them since top and bottom had no useful information. It's
too bad it wasn't encoded anamorphic. That would have been fan-tastic.
