Although this isn't particularly new, I only got to know the series recently, so I picked this up recently, too. Interestingly, I got this at the same time as the Kanon TV Fan Book, so with both fresh in my mind, a comparison was inevitable. And believe or not, not that one is expected to have a prejudice or anything, this is easily the better of the two.
The first thing I noticed is that this book has a more creative layout. It is an art book after all, so it's important. There are also more variety in illustrations. In some ways, it may not have been fair since Utawarerumono has more interesting mix of characters, design-wise as well as personality-wise. But who cares about that? Better is better.
This book has character line art which Kanon counterpart doesn't have. Kanon book does have some conte snippets, but I don't think those are as interesting from art book perspective. Kanon book also contains color scenery drawings whereas this one only has line art versions. Neither is very satisfying, though because they're all kind of small.
Beyond that, character interviews are more unorthodox here, which is good because it's more entertaining that way. Heck, I even like the font used in this book better.
Having said all that, I like both books.
