Animation stays quite good and the story is interesting enough. The only flaw with this series is that it has a few completely gratuitous panty shots. The feeling I get from those scenes is that they were thrown in to try to force the series into the mainstream domain. Who cares what the majority thinks? Just because majority thinks it, doesn't make the sun go around the earth. You say that the mainstream stuff brings in more money? I don't know. I bet a lot of the "mainstream" people don't pay for their anime.
The second disc contains a lot of extra stuff, like creditless openings/endings, TV spots, and Masumin+Youda's trip to Enoshima. There's the OAV episode 13, too, of course. It's a good unwinder for the show. I still need to rewatch it with audio commentary.
A lot of stuff comes with this box. I will read the novel and list it separately later.
