A good character song CD is rare, and I don't think this is all that much better than most character song CDs. They're certainly better sung, as they're sung by professional singers rather than seiyuu. It's still not bad, as the songs fit the characters.

Some songs are better mastered than others, with somewhere around 12dB worth of dynamic range (where it matters). Others don't fare so well with less than 10dB. In the end, 3dB isn't that much. Then again, the worst albums have average of less than 4dB of total dynamic range. If that's not just a collection of noise, I don't know what is.

I don't know what the bigger problem is. Is it the fact that CDs don't have any dynamic range, or that dynamic ranges are distributed evenly among different sounds. It's ridiculous to give acoustic guitar sound the same dynamic range as cymbal sound, which in turn ends up with the same dynamic range as bass drum sound. Some CDs actually give vocals even stronger emphasis. Basically, everything is so emphasized, nothing stands out. You end up with nothing more than noise.

Sadly enough, I think the last song is the best song (musically), yet it has the worst sound quality, too.
