Comments:

Shichinin no Nana is most certainly not a high-budget production. However, it is very well done in that they used what budget and time they had and focused their energy on what makes this anime special. It has a retro feel to it, kind of like that from Stellar Buster Mito, but not quite the same way. It draws a little from magical girl as well as from sentai shows. Animation is generally simple, again like Mito, and yet great details can be found in each Nana's expressions, once again like Mito. It is this art of simple expressions that made me fall in love with this show at first sight. Overall animation is somewhat low-resolution and yet facial expressions have more detail. This is a winner. I know it!

The English title, "Seven of Seven" can be found on the DVD, meaning that the creators approve of it, but I find it lacks the wit of the original Japanese title. It's one of those impossible to translate titles, like "Ima Sokoni Iru Boku" but not at all for the similar reasons. "Ima Sokoni Iru Boku" cannot be translated directly because of grammatical reasons only. This one is a bit more complicated. There are two ways to count numbers in Japanese (and also in Korean). One way has its root in Chinese characters and the other is more native. "shichi" has Chinese root and "nana" is native. "Nana" can also be a name of a person. I see 8 different writings for female names as well as 3 different writings for given names under EDICT(TM). The impossible-to-translate part is the fact that "Nana" is a name that could also mean 7. "Seven" is not a name of a person unless that person is a borg..., I mean _the_ Borg. I guess "Seven of Seven" is an acceptable name for a borg. Interesting.... Too bad it has nothing to do with this anime.
