Okay, so this is really old. Actually, 6 years may or may not be that much time. But it can be quite shocking to watch something like this, especially to fans who only got to know her recently. I mean, you can really see that she's the real thing.
I have a few other idol seiyuu DVDs, like that of Shimizu Ai and Yamamoto Maria, but never really thought they were all that enjoyable. This one really stands out as being almost spiritually entertaining. Scary, isn't it?
The bonus footages from CD release events threw me off a bit. I must have felt jealousy towards the fans who knew her since the early days. I wasn't into Japanese culture when I was young, and I'm too old now to get drawn excessively into the stuff, which in a way, is a good thing because idolism isn't all that different from religion. One has to be very careful to avoid taking it as anything more than a form of entertainment.
One thing I think is amazing about Yukarin is that even though she's got tens of thousands of fans now, I still don't feel put off by it. I think that speaks volumes about how real she is.
