Comments:

Mizuki Nana, whom I shall refer to as Nana-chan from now on because I'm older and she probably wouldn't mind, is probably the best singer among the current crop of seiyuu. That's not something trivial to say when you consider names like Sakamoto Maaya, Iwao Junko, and Kawasumi Ayako. That last one was a joke. Laugh. Now!

I've seen Nana-chan in small still photos before, but I've never seen her in a live video until now. She's cute! Slight overbite makes her even cuter. And she has that sparkling eyes that light up on screen. Of course, you can't forget her powerful, clean, and sweet voice. She's not clumsy (although some people like that attribute about certain seiyuu) and, although not particularly witty like Enomoto-san or Hayashibara-san, is not slow witted. I also could not find any flaw with her voice acting.

All good? Of course not. I don't care much for most of the "pop" songs she sings. As a matter of fact, I like her anime songs like "Birdie, Birdie" and "Success Success" more than any of the songs in her albums. Many of the songs on her albums, and therefore on this DVD, are just typical jpop songs. Nana-chan's talent is wasted on those. I'm not really putting down jpop in its entirety. For example, songs that Okui Masami sings have better lyrics and character. Most of the jpop songs that Nana-chan is given are not even close to being good enough, particularly in the lyrics department. This puts me in a real bad position. I want to support Nana-chan, but I don't want to support the marketing machine behind her. I really hope she can find a composer and a lyrist who can bring out the real Nana-chan, just as Sakamoto-san has found hers. (Well, it's actually backwards, but you get what I mean.)

I know there's huge amount of luck involved in show business and Nana-chan is now riding on a tidal wave. She should have more confidence and push for her own style instead of accepting whatever is fed to her by the marketing company that is interested in nothing but profit.

Anyway, the concert is kind of raw --it's her first, after all-- but I think everyone is having fun. I like ANIKI. He was also featured in Okui-san's concert. He seems like a genuinely nice guy. Not much else I can think of to write.

Completely unrelated "mamechishiki": That LCD monitor on stage, where all the synthesizer equipment is, is an Eizo model. Yeah!

All but the first image are WinDVD captures. Ever since I got my Holo3DGraph(TM)-II with HD-Aux add-on board, I'm unable to capture anything through it because it no longer passes video data through the PCI bus, but I still wanted to show my dedication for Nana-chan, so I captured whole lot more images using WinDVD and shrunk & aspect ratio corrected them. I'm trying to convince everyone to buy this. I swear, it's a very good buy! It's relatively cheap for an R2 DVD and it's full of entertaining content. I hope these tiny sample set can convince you all to go buy one.

Since it's impossible to find a clean, non-moving shot, this image is captured using DScaler with Holo3DGraph(TM) under FLI2200 control. I like the light coloring on the sides of her hair.
