I like the songs from Akihabara Dennongumi because I am familiar with them (Okui Masami CDs) and yet the version on this CD are sung by the seiyuu. I like surprises like that. "Rose Bud" and "anata no ichiban ni naritai" are claimed to be new recordings. As an otaku, I had to do some comparison between the version on this CD and the version on "Denshi no Yousei." It wasn't as easy as one might think because the waveform data are actually different, but I wouldn't call them "new recordings" unless they meant that these are newer than the original to be found on OST2 (in case of the second song). The one on "Denshi no Yousei" is also claimed to be a new recording, by the way, since it is a new recording compared to the one on OST2.

Careful listening as well as waveform analysis reveal that they're from the same recording. "anata no ichiban ni naritai" on "Denshi no Yousei" is, without a doubt, better of the two. There's less dynamic range compression (no, I don't feel sorry for people with boombox that can't handle 60dB worth of dynamic range) and has more natural frequency response curve. I didn't spend that much time on "Rose Bud," but it appears to be the other way around. The version on "Denshi no Yousei" is worse for that song.

Anyway, "anata no ichiban ni naritai" on OST2 will still be the special one as it really is like a legendary piece. It's also the least tweaked of them all. And it's very much imperfect, just as it should be.

The doll and the other books that come with this special edition are of high quality, no doubt, but I don't really feel that they add much to the deal, but it was only $10 more than the standard version, so no complaints. Collector's item is a collector's item, after all.
