For the most part, the story doesn't really have an aim, kind of like daydreams. It's still reasonably entertaining as a fantasy, and the occasional moments of enlightenment, like when Aka-chan makes up a great ending for the picture book, are, well, enlightening.
By the way, Onda Ao, Aka-chan's younger sister, is introduced in this volume.
