Cliffhanger from the last volume is nicely resolved in episode 6. Episode 7 is mostly a breather episode. It does give hints about why certain people (Kan'na and Chie) can't stand youkai.
Overall, I'm getting the feeling that this anime isn't that great as a stand-alone work. I feel like they're skipping over way too much important stuff while showing us too much useless stuff. I haven't even started reading the novels yet, so I can't say for sure, but I feel that the script for the anime isn't very well written.
