Hirasawa-sensei's music is most certainly unique, and when matched to
the right film, it can raise the level of realism (or unrealism if so
intended) of the film. This soundtrack is one of those.
Unfortunately, as well as it improves the film, it also requires the
visual feedback of the film to be at its best. At least, that's how
an unimaginative listener such as myself feels. The opening song is
great to listen to in the dark though, even for an unimaginative
little me.
All in all, you watch the series, which I do recommend you do, and
then decide if you think you'll like the music as stand-alone pieces.
