A bit of history.... I watched "Lain" long time ago and thought it
was interesting, but it didn't make me feel like spending money on
it. It was interesting, but I knew I was never going to watch it
again, so there really was no point in buying it. Part of the reason
was the animation style. I have no quarrel about its artistic value.
It just didn't appeal to my personal taste.
Then comes NieA_7. I read about it, thought about it, and thought
about it some more. The mere fact that Lain crew was involved in it
made me not purchase it for all this time. What a mistake that
was....
I saw the whole boxset (first pressing) listed at animejungle with an
'A' rating and thought, hey, I got money. And here I am, in love with
it. Actually, the fact that Kawasumi Ayako and Miyamura Yuuko were
the voices of the main characters certainly helped me make the right
decision.
I have this need to try to describe an anime with as few word as
possible and this particular one took me 3 days to come up with.
NieA_7 is "precious" to me. The anime is precious and the characters
are precious. NieA_7 brings out strong emotions, be it happiness (or
even giddiness), sadness, or other deep emotions, in a very
underhanded way. Maybe "underhanded" is the wrong word. Maybe I
should use "crafty" instead. NieA_7 brings out these emotions quietly
so that one isn't aware of it until one is immersed in them. Before
you know it, you're in love with the characters.
Okay, so I don't know if other people would react the same way I did.
You all must understand I write this stuff for my own satisfaction, so
always know that these are my opinions. Of course, you all knew that
already.
Now that I've got that out of my system, let's talk technical. You
know? There isn't much to talk about, technically. Just another
almost perfect interlaced R2 release.
I love the art work. All the important details are drawn with care
and occasional exaggerated scenes are done with style. Here are two
examples.
