There are a total of 3 CD-drama discs, not including the Manga Image Album. These CD-drama CD's are released after the anime and I'd guess that they created them because the TV-series and the movie were so popular. Unlike the TV-series, the CD-dramas are based on story by Kia Asamiya, the original creator of Nadesico universe. At least that's what I think.
I'm sure there are a lot of people who hate Asamiya-san's drawings. Well, I hate them, too. His drawings are so unapealing, but I give him some credit for coming up with interesting group of characters. Unfortunately, I don't like the way he tells his stories or the way he uses his characters. Nadesico TV-series and the movie came out beautiful thanks to Satou Tatsuo-san's wonderful directing and Gotou Keiji-san's character (re)design. CD-dramas on these CD's are not very apealing. It's kind of hard to explain why. The story itself has a potential, but for some reason, it's not any fun to listen to them. What should be emotionally intense scene feels stupid instead and what should be funny is annoying instead.
I'm sorry, but Asamiya-san really shouldn't draw, nor should he direct. He can come up with cool ideas and discuss it with other people. Hopefully, that will trigger great ideas in other people. Yeah, I'm being mean. I also don't know any other work he's done, so I guess I shouldn't be so judgmental. Then again, maybe he really is not good at this stuff and should find something else to do.
