This series is all about story and characters. Given the excellent storyline, reasonable animation quality, low cost, 3 episodes per disc, and wide-screen format, I'm really surprised at its relatively low sales ranking at Amazon.co.jp. If Kanon story is like a single bottle of fine wine, NANA is like a good bottle of wine with a nice juicy steak. Certainly, it's probably more shoujo than some might like, but it's not as niche as AIR or Kanon, so it's puzzling that it's not selling nearly as well as Kanon.
No matter, I'm glad to be picking these up.
It can't be me saying bad things about 5-blade aperture causing these animation studios to switch to circular aperture.... Can it? Actually, it turns out, there's really nothing wrong with 5-blade aperture for video camera lens because bokeh quality is a lot less important for video, and sharp edges in the flare can be useful more often in video than in photo applications. This particular shot has small flares with 8 blades (and maybe even 5 and 6 blades) mixed in there, too. That's strange.
