I picked up some "OLIVIA inspi' REIRA [TRAPNEST]" CDs because I wanted some more songs beyond the ones I got through "NANA BEST" album. It turned out that the ones on the "NANA BEST" are really the best ones after all. Either that, or I just need to take my time listening to the other songs more to get used to them. I'm not saying they're bad or anything like that, though.
Regardless of all that, the purchases turned out to be a good one because the mixing quality is much better on the singles. It's still not great, but it's a huge improvement over the "NANA BEST" CD. In a way, it shows how broken the system is. They obviously must have higher resolution digital masters somewhere, then convert to CD format whenever they want to put them on a CD. But it's the same song, so I'd think that they should do the conversion work just once and keep using that master whenever they want to put the song on a CD.
Then again, most of these so-called "audio engineers" don't really do anything that could be construed as "work" anyway. They probably just press some button to convert the stream and shove it on a CD, without any regards to making the best of the dynamic range we get from a CD.
Actually, I take that back. For some, it may actually be better if they just did that. I imagine some of them actually attempt to do something beyond their capabilities and end up making the conversion worse sounding than if they just used the default settings.
