Animephile Rating: D (6.0)
- Video Scan Type : interlaced-TV (-2.5) -
Even though this series was mostly(?) shot on film, it has so much
editing done on it, it rarely has any 3:2 pulldown information
left in it. At least, that's how I see it. dTV (2.1.2) occasionally
picks out 3:2 pulldown, mostly with panning backgrounds, but everywhere
else, it's in video mode.
- Aspect Handling : standard (-0.0)
- Compression : -0.5 -
It has a lot of fine-grain noise, but it is not at all annoying. It's
pretty well done.
- Video Separation : -0.5 -
It's obvious that editing was done in composite domain, but hardware
used must've been good.
- Scene Transition : -0.5 -
There are distortions, but it's not as bad as ones from Nadesico (R2)
or To Heart DVD's.
- Calibration : -0.0
Comments:
Most people would classify this anime as shoujo. I can accept that
ONLY IF "To Heart" is also considered shoujo. If you must insist that
"To Heart" is shounen, then I must insist that KareKano be classified
as shounen. Anyway, it's somewhat strange, but not unreasonably so.
Everything does make realistic sense unlike... say... Evangelion. I
HATE anime that are unnecessarily confusing. It's the same thing as
so-called "art" that is just paint blotches everywhere. Whatever.
Oh, if not for anything else, I just LOVE how it puts down smoking! I
hate how some of the adults in Love Hina smokes constantly AROUND
kids!
There's not much to say about the video quality other than what I
mention in the rating.
First image shows fine grain noise. (It's a lossless compressed png file.)
Second image shows transition artifact. Since transition artifact
only affects the top and the bottom, I cropped away the the middle part.
