After reading two more volumes, I think I see what's going on better. Basically, Nobue is OYAJI (an old man) with some kind of MOE complex, with a twist that he's in a 16 year old girl's body. Think about it for a minute. If Nobue is drawn as an actual old man, wouldn't you be disgusted with the whole thing? Heck, I mostly felt that way even though she is presented as a 16 year old girl. I think I saw through it subconsciously, which is why I said all that negative stuff in the volume 1 listing.
This series is pushing a taboo subject on you by hiding it under a mask. In a way, I have to commend the author because I think he did it quite cleverly. Some of the chapters are actually quite enjoyable, particularly the ones not featuring Nobue or featuring her in a very minor way.
Needless to say, I'm still not going to buy any of the DVDs or CDs. Call it "voting with wallet" or whatever. Besides, with all these people watching the latest anime by downloading illegitimate copies when I haven't even seen a single episode, I've been feeling more and more pissed off about buying stuff anyway. I've not seen a single episode of Dokuro-chan, yet people have downloaded them and watched them. People have lost the ability to distinguish between a right and a privilege. That's why I try to only buy niche stuff these days. Boy, do I love those CD dramas. Of course, I can also buy manga. They're cheap. Guess why they're so much cheaper than DVDs and CDs even though it takes more man-hours to create manga than it takes to make anime.
