...or so I thought until I finished the first disc.
Yes, it is a children's show. When I think about it, there's nothing wrong
with that. I am just a kid at heart, after all. And all the mismatching
colors are actually not mismatching. They may seem out of whack in local
terms, but I started seeing coordinated colors in the whole screen at a time.
I think it's meant to tickle the visual senses of young kids.
Potpourri develops fast during the first dozen episodes and by the end of the
first disc, I started seeing the heart warming charm hidden all around the
highly exaggerated animation style. I'm not going to call it a masterpiece
just yet since I've only finished the first disc, but if it can continue to
improve the way it did during the first 12 episodes, I can see it becoming a
masterpiece of an anime by the end.
Itou Ikuko's specialty of designing cute characters shines once again. Also,
Potpourri is voiced by Konishi Hiroko, reminding me of the combo from Mahou
Tsukai Tai!
To me, Satou Jun'ichi and Itou Ikuko pair has never made anything but masterpieces. On the other hand, works that they've done separately are not guaranteed masterpieces to me, so this one will need more convincing development since Satou-sensei was not involved in this piece. Still, I am looking forward to having more free time so I can finish watching the rest of the discs.
