Better than recent Pioneer Japan DVDs. These are just about as good
as they get except for the unfortunate fact that they contain 3:2
pulldown information instead of just having flags to generate 3:2
pulldown on-the-fly. For those confused, that means it's interlaced.

Originally when I heard about Full Metal Panic, I sort of decided it's
not for me even though I knew almost nothing about it. At Fanime, I
got to see the 2nd episode. As the opening sequence started playing,
I said, "I need to buy that CD." And then, as the show began, I
thought, wow, it's all so beautiful. I still had no idea what the
show was about, but I knew it had to be something special because it
was something special to the animators. Even so, I held back, hoping
Pioneer US would get the rights. Well, ADV got it. Forget that. I'm
still being careful, but first 3 discs are wonderful. I'm going to get
more. By the way, since I already read manga up to volume 4, I
already know what happens in episode 7, so I'm not impatient. I'm
sure the original novels are great, but the main reason I love this
show is the character design, so I'll stick with manga and anime.
I'm surprised that they bothered to print different DVDs for first
pressing and regular pressing. First pressing discs supposedly have
picture label on the discs. That's nice, but I really don't care for
all the figures. I'd liked to have the booklets, though. Oh well.
Those are too expensive so I'm sticking with regular versions.
One thing I'm VERY disappointed with is the fact that Yukino Satsuki
is doing the voice of Kaname. It works reasonably well during normal
scenes, but she's terrible at critical scenes. I'm absolutely amazed
at how bad she is. It's like I'm watching a bad English dub. She
obviously hasn't read the manga nor does she understand the character
she's playing. Fujitani Miki would've been PERFECT for the role. Oh
man, I'm so upset!
Picture of Kaname when she was in Jr. High, probably. Soooo cute!
