Comments:
There're many new animation techniques that became available only
recently thanks to the cell-less animation. Maybe I'm too
old-fashioned, or maybe just plain too old, but in my opinion, a lot
of animation studios use them excessively, or incorrectly. To me,
Xebec is not one of them. If you look at D.N.Angel animation, you'll
notice that they don't use too many color gradients except in the
large-scale background drawings. It helps bring out the cell-like
feel. If you're thinking that it'd actually be easier, too, that
isn't quite correct. Because the real life is full of gradients, it's
actually harder to represent complex objects without using them. In
the old days of cell animation, animators had to be good at using
shadows. Now, they just mimic the photo. One of the reasons I
decided to complete my collection of D.N.Angel DVDs is Xebec's
animation style.
