I won't talk about the actual story in this book because I think it should be read by all who watched the anime (and liked it). It's 1028 years after the war (end of the anime). I actually haven't watched the end of the anime, but I am planning to buy the DVDs. If I can find used set, I'll pick that up. If not, I'll just order them on-line.
Personally, I think it's better to read this book before watching the anime. It would likely change the way you perceive the relationship between Hagino and Mari. I'm not sure, though, since I haven't watched the whole anime yet. You could even read this book first and then decide if you want to watch the anime. After all, this one only costs Y590.
I like how the histories of each characters link up together. Highly recommended!
