So, I got to see episodes 2 and 3 of the anime, BLUE DROP ~Tenshi-tachi no Gikyoku~, at a local anime club and was impressed with the personal nature of its story. I'm very fond of stories in which the characters do things for themselves, instead of for the entertainment of the viewers. And me still being a seiyuu otaku, its excellent casting got me hooked, too. So after looking around, I learned that it's based on, or rather a prequel of a manga series.
I bought three BLUE DROP manga without thinking much about it. One of them is a collection of BLUE DROP related short stories by the author, and is the origin of the series. The other two are 2-volume manga series that came after the short stories.
Let's get this one over with. The 2-volume manga series is... yuri. No wait. It's BL (Boys Love). No, wait, that's not quite right, either. Well, the point is, it's borderline hentai. I suppose those scenes aren't completely out of place, but I still feel the whole thing is incompatible with itself. The overall theme of the series is fairly serious and perhaps even noble, yet this manga series leans towards slapstick comedy, with H scenes. That conflict disturbs me, especially because the H scenes are well done (^^);;
It's basically nonsensical. Characters are nonsensical and story turns and twists in nonsensical directions, too. Even the author admits that he's writing it without thinking ahead. No wonder it turned out as a slapstick comedy...-like thing.
