Do you know why Azumanga Daiou is great? Because it's about girls.
Let's face it. Men are the most uninteresting creatures on this
planet! Worse yet, men think they are actually interesting. Listen
to yourselves talk, man! I do. I'm one boring creature, alright.
Girls, on the other hand, have this intricate emotional web that reach
out around them. It doesn't reach out very far, but where it reaches,
it forms a beautiful yet strong bond. Sure the characters in Azumanga
Daiou are a bit too ideal, but nothing wrong with that in art form.
Ideal by what standards, you ask? By Kimura's standards, I answer.
But Kimura himself is just a character! Not necessarily. You see?
If you read Azuma Kiyohiko's old parody works, you'll see that Kimura
is actually a concentrated version of Kiyohiko himself (with some
added sugar)!
Kimura is a brutally honest man, so I shall be as well. The way I see
it, there's something terribly wrong with girls who don't like
Azumanga Daiou. As for men, those are the type of men who will end up
boring their wives to death. You know the type; beer-drinking,
football-watching, power-loving, and ultimately useless creatures.
I love Azumanga Daiou and all the girls in it. Unlike Kimura, though, I have no desire to see them change. That side of Kimura is just a big joke to me.
