Comments:
"Angelic Layer" is obviously designed for the large market that is
made up of boys and girls and their parents whose money is fleeting.
I might be stretching it a bit, but I'd say that "Angelic Layer" is a
cross between "Card Captor Sakura" and "Pokemon." For the most part,
these marketing schemes(?) don't work too well on me. I'm rarely
interested in merchandise other than the usual CD and DVD. I admit
that I did buy the Clow Cards and Sakura Cards. Clow Cards are VERY
well made and authentic-feeling. I don't regret buying them at all.
Sakura Cards, on the other hand, are pretty uninspiring. Oh, and I
did buy the plastic model kit of Ryvius. Hey, that was worth it!
Anyway, I guess I'm kidding myself when I say that these marketing
schemes don't work too well on me since I am a sucker for this kind of
simplistic and yet cute animation style that are common in "Card
Captor Sakura" and "Angelic Layer." Also, I'm fond of Enomoto
Atsuko-san's voice. I always wanted her to get a great new role
ever since I heard her as Miyazawa Yukino in "Kareshi Kanojo no
Jijou." So, at this chance, I'd like to congratulate Enomoto-san for
getting the lead role in Angelic Layer. Of course, I'm not really
expecting her to read my page or anything.... [Enomoto-san! Daisuki!
Tsukiatte kudasai!] .... Ahem... as I was saying, Kurumi (Koutetsu
Tenshi Kurumi) was just not the most interesting role for her in my
opinion. I hated the fact that Horie Yui-san was getting all the
attention for a while. I don't really have anything against her, but
I don't think she deserved all that attention.
One interesting note about "Angelic Layer" is that the main character
has a new made-up word that she uses. I guess it's the new big thing
these days. That word is "Naa" which is so inconspicuous that I
didn't even notice it until much later. I actually like it a lot more
than "kyuiin!" and "hani hani" because "naa" is so inconspicuous. It
feels more natural. "Hanyan" and "hoe" were pretty good, too, I
guess, sort of, in a different way....
I must be boring everyone to death. Here're some images.
Image1: I just love the simplistic and yet very cute character drawings!
Image2: Misaki is supposed to be shorter than usual, but not according
to this picture. Maybe she's just too self-conscious.
